AusAlert

Interesting development with AusAlert testing yesterday. What about a custom alert tone for the AusAlert - hang on, is that even possible? Nope. Why not a 'Shakuhachi' catchy Zen melody? Prepares the mind. Fines for inappropriate AusAlert alarms in public places? Where is all this going? Where is a clear and transparent emergency communication protocol and message scope? 

There is no SIM card needed for communication (now apparently declassified..and there's always 112, which works on older devices without VoLTE)? Aeroplane mode? But what if I want to communicate during the emergency or even day to day...aeroplane mode would be a bad option..

My thinking now is this - rock the messaging with a 'pager device' approach. The alarm should be less menacing. The messages could have Code numbers (with automatic text to speech) with NO LINKS and NO BUTTONS or 'X's (just swipe to close) for good cybersecurity hygiene (avoids phishing). A secure app that is available for iOS and Android could be preinstalled on a relevant device (avoids spoofing on a fake website). Go to the app, type in/speak the Code number into the mic (which the app translates speech to text) and a breakdown of the message type (eg. 'Climate change', 'Natural disasters', 'Police', 'Traffic', 'Military', 'Public Health' etc), content and course of action appears in a preselected language, with a preselection of text to speech option for the visually impaired. The app could even receive realtime priority updates using the GPS on the phone for geographic relevance - with yes, a custom alert tone.

I should mention too that the passive mobile phone tower messages are barely 1 Factor of Authentication (1FA) - the app could provide 2FA. eg. a hacker gets into someone's device and fakes the passive mobile tower messaging with the intent of causing harm or chaos. The user enters the app and checks for a realtime log of generic and priority alerts - if they are not present, then the user knows they are being hacked and avoids acting on the initial message...
